This page illustrates several of the vacuum tube
projects that I've been recently working on.
You can probably guess that I'm a big fan of Alfred Morgan's series of books
such as:
"The Boy's Second Book of Radio and Electronics" which I had received as a
Christmas
present many years ago.
I felt compelled to build some of these old projects (again).
Although the Morgan projects would work just fine without it, I've added an isolation
transformer,
fuse, and 3-line grounded AC cord for safety's sake.
Hopefully, I'll add more skizzies to this page soon.
A recent addition is the 1934 Doerle Twinplex as
illustrated in T. J. Linsay's book.
I've just completed this set (Nov 16, 2005) and it *really* works well. I
can't wait
to wind some additional coils for it! (I've recently disassembled it to paint
it.)
My newest additions are the Lindsay Grid
Dip Oscillator and the ubiquitous Allied Knight Kit Space Spanner.
I was able to reproduce one coil to date by using my GDO and Gingery coil wider.
What a blast!
I've just added my first heterodyne
receiver for 80 meter band. What a difference! The tuning very sharp
when compared
to the regenerative radios. Although it is another "primitive" design, it
really works well!
I may try winding some AM/BC coils to see how it compares to my first radios.
New addition August 27, 2006, the "Doerle
Signal Gripper". This is a nifty 3-tube regenerative receiver that
features
a tuned RF-Amp, grid-leak detector, inter-stage transformer, and audio amp.
I've yet to engrave the front panel, but that's next!
And after all that, I'm going to have to
re-layout my WEB page to show more details!
