Lesson #9 - Play the Melody in Octaves

Octave Melody

Now we'll start to sound a little more Cajun.

We'll start with the same melody as we had just played, one-note-at-a-time.  But this time, we'll play it using the Octaves technique described in the previous lesson.

As a learning technique, I'd suggest picking out the octave melody one phrase at a time.

First, I'll play the phrase, then you mimic what I've just done.

When you feel comfortable with a phrase, move on to the next.

Once you can play (and remember!) all the individual phrases, we can string them all together to play the entire tune.

Again, the value of the addition of these octaves doesn't seem very apparent at first, but this technique is very important!

We will be building from this as we progress!

 Have fun!
